There are beautiful places to take portraits in Fort Worth… and then there is Bass Performance Hall.

If you’ve ever walked into Bass Hall, you know what I mean. The architecture, the staircases, the balconies, the stage, the rich colors and incredible details,it already feels like you’ve stepped into something special.

But having the entire Bass Performance Hall to yourself for a portrait session?

That is a completely different experience.

I’ve photographed several sessions inside Bass Performance Hall, and it has become one of those locations my clients absolutely fall in love with. For some of them, being photographed here is genuinely a dream come true.

But if you’re considering having your senior portraits, branding portraits, beauty portraits, or another special portrait session at Bass Performance Hall in Fort Worth, there are a few things you need to know before you book.

1. Bass Performance Hall Portrait Sessions Are VERY Limited

This is probably the most important thing to know:

You cannot decide a few weeks before your session that you want to photograph at Bass Hall and assume it will be available.

Bass Performance Hall is first and foremost a working performance venue, so portrait session availability is extremely limited and revolves around their performance and event calendar.

As of the time I’m writing this, there is only ONE remaining portrait session date available for the rest of 2026: November 23, 2026.

So if Bass Hall is one of those locations you’ve dreamed about using for your portraits, this is something we need to plan well in advance.

And honestly, that exclusivity is part of what makes these sessions so special.

2. You Get Bass Performance Hall to Yourself

This is one of my favorite parts.

During your scheduled portrait time, we aren't trying to photograph around crowds of people coming in and out of the building.

You get access to this absolutely gorgeous Fort Worth landmark for your session.

There is something surreal about walking through those spaces when they're quiet and realizing, we get to create here.

The staircases. The balconies. The hallways. The stage. The architectural details.

It gives us so many completely different looks without ever leaving the building.

And for someone who loves drama in their portraits,and you probably know by now that I LOVE drama,it is basically a giant playground.

3. Your Photographer NEEDS to Know How to Use Light

This is a big one.

Bass Performance Hall is beautiful, but beautiful architecture doesn't automatically create beautiful portraits.

There are areas inside Bass Hall where there is little to no usable natural light.

That means your photographer needs to be comfortable creating their own light and, just as importantly, understand how to make that light feel intentional within the environment.

This is not a location where I would want to depend entirely on window light and hope for the best.

I bring professional lighting equipment and know how to shape light around my client while still allowing the incredible architecture of Bass Hall to remain part of the photograph.

Because the goal isn't simply to prove you were inside Bass Hall.

I want to create a portrait that feels like you BELONG there.

4. You Get Your Own Dressing Room

And this might be one of the coolest little details of the entire experience.

You aren't changing clothes in a bathroom or trying to balance your wardrobe over the backseat of your car.

You get your own dressing room.

And not just any dressing room.

We're talking about the same dressing rooms used by the performers and stars who come to Bass Performance Hall.

There is something really fun about getting ready backstage, changing your looks in an actual performer's dressing room and then walking out into this incredible building for your portraits.

It adds another layer to the experience that you simply can't recreate at a normal portrait location.

5. Your Session Is 90 Minutes, and the Clock Matters

Bass Hall sessions are scheduled in very specific time blocks.

You have one hour and thirty minutes for your portrait session.

And this is one location where being late really does matter.

I recommend arriving at least 15 minutes early so that we are completely ready when our scheduled time begins.

If our access begins at 1:00 and you arrive at 1:15, unfortunately Bass Hall doesn't move our ending time back 15 minutes. Our session still ends at the originally scheduled time.

There isn't flexibility to run over because the building has its own schedule.

So this is one portrait session where I will lovingly tell you:

Please. Be. Early.

We want every minute we can get.

6. You Have an Escort Who Knows Bass Hall Inside and Out

We aren't simply handed the keys and told, "Good luck!"

During the session, we have an escort from Bass Performance Hall who knows the building incredibly well and helps guide us through the property.

This is wonderful because Bass Hall is HUGE.

They know how to navigate the building efficiently and help us get where we need to go without wasting valuable portrait time wandering through hallways trying to figure out where that gorgeous staircase went.

It allows me to spend my time doing what I should be doing:

Watching the light, posing you, creating, and making photographs that feel completely different from anything you've had before.

7. Wardrobe Matters Here

If we're going somewhere this spectacular, we're going to take advantage of it.

Bass Hall can handle wardrobe that might feel like "too much" somewhere else.

A dramatic gown.

Old Hollywood glamour.

Editorial fashion.

A beautifully tailored suit.

Something romantic and timeless.

Something bold and completely unexpected.

For my senior clients especially, we can create several completely different looks during the session—from sophisticated and classic to fashion-forward and dramatic.

This is why wardrobe planning is such an important part of the process.

Before your session, we'll talk about the areas we hope to photograph, the feeling you want your portraits to have, and what you're going to wear so everything works together intentionally.

You shouldn't be standing in your closet the night before wondering what on earth you're supposed to bring.

8. Plan Your Looks Before We Walk Through the Door

Because our 90 minutes are valuable, this isn't the location where I want to spend 20 minutes deciding between outfits.

We plan beforehand.

Which outfit goes first?

Which looks need the stage?

Which outfit belongs on that staircase?

What needs to happen before a hair or wardrobe change?

The more intentional we are before the session, the more creative freedom we have once we're inside.

That's one of the things I think people sometimes don't realize about elaborate portrait sessions: the photograph may look effortless, but there is a lot of thought happening behind the scenes to make it feel that way.

9. Think About the Story You Want Your Portraits to Tell

Bass Performance Hall obviously makes incredible senior portraits, but it isn't limited to seniors.

I've photographed clients there who wanted something that felt grand, artistic, theatrical and completely unlike everyday life.

It can be incredible for:

High school senior portraits, dancers and performers, musicians, branding portraits, editorial portraits, women's beauty sessions, milestone birthdays, or simply someone who has always dreamed of being photographed somewhere extraordinary.

You don't have to be a performer to deserve the stage.

Sometimes the whole point of a portrait session is getting to step into a version of yourself you don't get to experience every day.

And Bass Hall gives us a LOT to work with.

Is Bass Performance Hall Worth It for Portraits?

For the right person?

Absolutely.

If you want simple outdoor portraits in a field, this probably isn't your location.

But if you want your portraits to feel dramatic, sophisticated, artistic, editorial or completely different from what everyone else is doing, Bass Performance Hall is hard to beat.

It's also more than simply the photographs.

You get to walk backstage.

You get your own dressing room.

You get to stand on the stage.

You get to explore one of the most beautiful buildings in Fort Worth while it's quiet.

And for 90 minutes, we get to create something that feels entirely yours.

I've watched clients walk into Bass Hall excited about the location and then realize once we're inside just how special the experience actually is.

That's why I keep coming back.
